Life Insurance for Your Family
Working out how much cover your family would really need if your income stopped, and choosing between pure protection and savings-oriented LIC plans.
Read about life insurance planning →Need someone local to explain an LIC plan properly before you sign? I'm Sunil Kumar, an LIC agent based near Galleria Shopping Mall in Hiranandani Gardens. I help Powai families with new life cover, children's plans, pension and annuity choices, NRI enquiries and questions about policies they already hold.

LIC Agent / Insurance Advisor serving customers in and around Powai, Hiranandani Gardens, Panchkutir Ganesh Nagar and Chandivali.
Most people I meet in Powai are not short of options. They are short of time, and a little tired of being sold to. Someone forwards a plan on WhatsApp, a colleague mentions what he bought, the bank relationship manager suggests something else. It becomes hard to tell which plan does what.
My job is to slow that down. We start with your situation: who depends on your income, what loans are running, when your children will need money, and when you want to stop working. Only after that do we look at LIC plans, and I explain each one in plain words, including the parts that are usually skipped, like the premium paying term, the lock-in, and what happens if you stop paying midway.
Because I'm based right here near Galleria, you have a person to call when a premium notice looks confusing, when a nominee needs to change, or when a policy is about to mature. That continuity matters more than people expect, because an LIC policy often runs for 15, 20 or 25 years.
Each area has its own page with more detail. Pick the one closest to what's on your mind.

Get help with an existing policy →LIC has many plans, but most of them fall into a few families. Knowing which family you need makes the choice much easier.
Pure protection. You pay a comparatively small premium for a large cover. If something happens to you during the term, your family receives the sum assured. Usually there's no maturity amount.
Protection plus savings. You get life cover during the term and a maturity amount at the end, subject to plan terms. Premiums are higher than term plans for the same cover.
Similar to endowment, but part of the sum assured is paid back at set intervals during the term. Some families like this for planned expenses along the way.
Plans structured around a child's age, so that money becomes available around education years. Worth comparing carefully, because features differ from plan to plan.
Plans that turn a lump sum into regular income, either starting right away (immediate annuity) or after a waiting period (deferred annuity).
Cover that continues for a much longer period than a regular term, often chosen by people thinking about leaving something behind for the next generation.
Please note: LIC plan benefits, premiums, eligibility and applicable terms depend on the specific plan and prevailing LIC rules. Please verify the latest details and policy terms before making a decision.
Official LIC website →Powai is an unusual mix. There are young professionals who moved here for work at the office towers, families who have lived around the lake for decades, faculty and staff near IIT Bombay, and senior citizens who now live with their children in Hiranandani. Their insurance questions are completely different, and that's why I don't believe in one "best plan" for everyone.
I'm located at Hiranandani Garden, near Galleria Shopping Mall, which is easy to reach from most of Powai. People from Hiranandani Gardens, Panchkutir Ganesh Nagar, Chandivali, Saki Vihar Road and the IIT area get in touch, and many prefer to start on WhatsApp and meet later once they've shortlisted something.
If you've recently moved to Powai and your old agent is in another city, that's also fine. I can go through your existing LIC policies and help you understand where things stand.
Buying the policy is one day. Owning it is twenty years. Here's where a local contact helps.
Some decisions are easier across a table with the brochure open, especially when parents or a spouse want to be part of the discussion.
Sum assured, premium paying term, bonus, surrender value — I explain what these mean for your policy, not in general.
A plan you can't keep paying for is not a good plan. We fix a premium you're comfortable with before we pick anything.
Proposal forms, KYC, age proof, nominee details and medical requirements — I'll tell you what's needed and check it with you.
Premium dates, address changes, nominee updates, maturity paperwork — questions come up over the years, and you'll know whom to ask.
Send a photo of a policy document or a premium notice and your question. It's often the fastest way to get started.
A starting point only. The right choice depends on your age, income and existing cover.
| If your main concern is… | Plans usually worth discussing |
|---|---|
| Family should be okay if my income stops | Term assurance, sized to your income and loans |
| Money for my child's college in 10–15 years | Children's plans or endowment plans timed to that year |
| Steady income after I retire | Pension and annuity plans |
| I want to save regularly with some life cover | Endowment or money back plans |
| I live abroad but my family is in Mumbai | LIC plans available to NRIs, subject to eligibility |
| I already have policies and don't understand them | A policy review before buying anything new |
Plan availability and features change from time to time. We'll check the current version of any plan before you decide.
Before you trust anyone with a 20-year decision, it's fair to ask a few questions. Does the advisor explain the downside of a plan as clearly as the benefits? Do they ask about your budget before suggesting anything? Will they be reachable after the policy is issued? Can they show you the official plan details, not just a printout of returns?
Those are the standards I'd like to be judged by. You can see what customers have said, or leave your own feedback, on my Google Business Profile.

Yes, and you should. The first conversation is only to understand your needs and explain the options. There's no pressure to buy on the spot. Take the details home, discuss with family, and decide when you're ready.
Yes. You can share your policy details and I'll help you understand the cover, premium status and maturity dates, and guide you on servicing requests. Some changes have to be processed by LIC itself, and I'll explain how that works.
Most enquiries come from Powai, Hiranandani Gardens, Panchkutir Ganesh Nagar, Chandivali and Saki Vihar, but anyone in Mumbai can get in touch. Many first discussions happen over the phone or WhatsApp.
There isn't one answer. LIC plans are built for different purposes — protection, savings, child planning, pension — and the returns, where applicable, depend on the plan terms. It's better to decide what you need the money for first, then compare suitable plans.
Tell me briefly what you're looking for — a new plan, a quote, a pension discussion or help with an old policy — and I'll get back to you.
